Children’s Chant Workshop for Grades 2-12
May 12, 2012 (9:00 AM-Mass at 4:00)


Lunch, snacks, pencils, and music will be provided at the workshop.  Please, just come well rested and fresh!

Note: Cantors of all ages are needed for all of the music selections except for Non Nobis Domine.  Willing volunteers are much appreciated.  The more the merrier!

(Final changes have been made to accommodate a funeral and breakfast that will be happening during the workshop time.)

8:30     Arrive
at Holy Ghost Parish Church and gather on the side lawn for
            Snacks, socializing, and getting oriented with the building

9:00     Session 1: (All workshop attendees in the St. Cecilia Music Room)
            Introductions, Expectations and rules, Singing Postures and Singing Technique, Warm-up, and Review of the Sung Mass Parts, Basics of Reading 
            Chant Notation

10:00   Session 2: The Propers
  • Grades 2-4 sing the Communion in the John Paul II room (Mary Garner & Anne Hendershott)
  • Ladies in Grades 5-12 sing the Introit in the choir loft (Mary Weaver & Ericka McCarty)
  • Gentlemen in Grades 5-12 sing the Offertory in the St. Cecilia Music Room (Father Carter and Mark Galbaugh)

11:00   Session 3: The Ordinary (Gloria, Sanctus & Agnus Dei)
  • Grades 2-4 in the St. Cecilia Music Room
  • Grades 5-12 in the choir loft

12:00   Lunch 
            Papa John's pizza! Yum! We will eat in the parish hall or out on the Lawn if it is pretty!  Orders will be taken at check-in. 

12:30   Session 4: The Ordinary (Kyrie & Credo)
  • All Ladies in the St. Cecilia Music Room
  • All Gentlemen in the choir loft

1:30    Session 5: Christus Vincit and Non Nobis Domine
           All workshop attendees in the choir loft

2:30    Snack Break

2:45    Session 6: Run-Through of all music and Mass responses in the Church
           All workshop attendees in the choir loft 

3:30     Mass Preparation and Quiet Meditation

4:00     Mass

Registration and Tuition
Tuition for the chant workshop is $25 per student, and there is $50 limit per family.
