Psalite Sapienter: 98 During the season of Lent (that is, from Ash Wednesday through Wednesday of Holy Week, inclusive), the organ may not be used, except it be necessary to sustain the singing (see ¶ 22). However, the organ may be played on the fourth Sunday (Lætare), on feasts, and at Benediction. The Gloria is sung only on feasts. The chant Ordinary assigned to Sundays during this time is Mass XVII, though this is not obligatory. The word alleluia should never be sung during Lent.
